Class Costs
What do classes cost?
All our regular classes are available on a ‘pay as you go’ rate of £5 per class, with no obligation to commit to multiple classes.
All classes can be booked up to a week in advance.
To book your classes, please visit our online shop.
What do the beginners courses cost?
Beginners courses, are paid in advance and are usually £25 for a 6 week course.
To book your place on a course, please visit our online shop.
I booked on, but now can’t make it to class, what do I do?
We completely understand that plans change, so we’ll always do our best to accommodate you where possible. If more than 24 hours’ notice, please drop an email to info@wokingdancespace.org.uk with your order details and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Our first option is to transfer the booking to another class, with refunds considered at the studio’s discretion.
If it is less than 24 hours’ notice, we are unable to exchange or refund. It would be a kindness to let us know if you cannot make the class, as some can be busy and we may be able to offer the space to another dancer.
Beginners
I’m a complete beginner and…
Welcome to the wonderful world of dance!
You’ve found a great studio to start dancing. At Woking Dance Space we offer classes for adult dancers no matter what their age and previous experience, and that includes the complete beginner with ‘two left feet’!
What beginners courses do you offer?
We currently offer complete beginners classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, & Lyrical. We also offer other short courses on a one off basis when there is sufficient demand.
For details of all our current classes including beginners courses please look that the Classes section.
When can I start?
The Courses rotate genres each half term, so usually run for 6 weeks.
The aim of the course is to allow everyone to get the basics right, before moving on to the main-stream classes that the studio offers.
For details of all our current classes including courses beginners please look that the Classes section.
Classes
Do you provide classes for adults?
Yes, absolutely. Woking Dance Space classes are exclusively for adults of all ages.
We start where youth dance schools stop, and there is no upper age limit to make you stop if you don’t want to.
Do you provide classes for children?
We don’t try to complete with regular dancing schools, as such we don’t take students below the age of 17.
There are many opportunities for children in the Woking area, and many good schools covering all the major dance styles.
Do I have to register/enrol for classes?
We do not have a formal registration process, but you do need to book in advance to come along to class. This is done via our webshop.
Can I start in the middle of a term?
Yes, absolutely. All our classes are available on a pay as you basis, so welcome to just book on and come along when you can, we’re flexible.
The only exception to this rule are the Beginners courses where the sign up is a commitment to the whole course.
How big are the classes?
Class size ranges – from 3 – 4 up to 25. Average is usually somewhere around 15, with many of our evening classes seeing busier sessions.
What’s the typical age range in the classes?
We often see the age range varying with the style of dance and time of class.
We always say that we take anyone from 17 to 70, and that is apparent across many of our classes.
What to wear
What should I wear to class?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move freely. Leisure or gym wear is absolutely fine. Something restrictive like jeans or tight trousers may hinder your experience in class.
What about shoes?
Footwear is the only real exception to the above rule, you will need specific shoes / footwear for certain genres.
For Tap – obviously tap shoes are a requirement. We do have a small supply of loan tap shoes at the studio for new starters, but there’s no guarantees that they will be in your sizes, so come early! If you do have your own, please make sure the screws are not protruding – the dance floor is very expensive and we need to avoid sharp edges tearing or gouging the surface.
For ballet – a spare pair of socks will work if you do not (yet!) have ballet shoes. Many style and price points available in local dance shops and online. Most people go for canvas with elastic, they don’t need to be fancy satin with ribbons!
All Jazz classes can be taken in jazz trainers or shoes. If you are coming back to dance, and digging the old jazz trainers out the cupboard, please check their state – over time the rubber in the soles can deteriorate and end up leaving residue marks behind! Non dance trainers can also be worn, but we do ask that they are clean and not used for general outdoor wear. The dance floor is very expensive and need to avoid damage or marks from dirty or worn shoes or grit in the soles. Ballet shoes, foot thongs, barefoot or socks are also perfectly acceptable for these classes.
Contemporary is traditionally taken in bare feet or using foot thongs, but you may want to wear socks or ballet / jazz shoes until your feet get used to the wear and tear.
Where can I purchase dance wear?
There are a number of dance shops in the local area. A small selection includes;
There are also a number of reputable online stores, that supply a wide range of brands. Such as:
