Absolute Beginners Tap
This course is fully booked! Get in touch to be added to a waiting list or to find out about future courses
Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, six week course starting 6th January 2020.
Over the course of six lessons, we will endeavour to become comfortable with basic tap movements and sequences in a relaxed and open environment. Working at a pace tailored to those participating, the content of each class will generally begin with a group warm up, simple exercises on the spot and across the room and culminating in an enjoyable routine.
The classes will be mostly the same for two weeks in a row, giving each dancer a chance to absorb and improve on what they have learnt. The difficulty of what we learn will gradually build and through repetition, the participants will gain knowledge of tap vocabulary and feel confident in putting it into practice.
This class is taught by Helen Ledsome.
Absolute Beginners Ballet
Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, six week course starting 20th April 2020.
This course concentrates on absolute basics - i.e. the five positions of the arms and feet and the importance of correct stance.
The class follows the traditional pattern of barre work, adage/port de bras, centre practice, allegro and short cool down, but at a fundamental level. Suitable for students who have never studied Classical Ballet before or for those returning after a long break.
Absolute Beginners Jazz
Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, six week course starting 1st June 2020.
This six week course is a gentle introduction to the fundamental elements of jazz technique. The pace of the class will be tailored to those taking part, with plenty of time for questions and repetition.
Participants can expect to gain some understanding of technical steps including types of turns, kicks, jumps and modes of travelling across the space. We will experience varying dynamics during the class and increase awareness of body placement.
This is a great opportunity to create a basis upon which to expand, perhaps in our Beginner Jazz Plus Course or our regular American Jazz or Theatre Jazz classes.
Absolute Beginners Contemporary

This six week course is for those who wish to learn the basic principles and knowledge of contemporary dance. It is a great chance to get an introduction to a sector of dance that isn't so easily available in comparison to other disciplines.
The classes will be loosely based around 'Cunningham' and 'Release' contemporary techniques and will include focus on back mobility, travelling to each individual's absolute maximum and integrating classical technique to a more grounded and expansive format of movement.
Exercises in the centre will warm up the body from head to toe before moving onto travelling phrases, floor-work and jumps; all at a basic level with room for customising the material to the individual's needs/ability.
Perfect for those with little or no dance background who wish to try a more free and explorative dance class.
