The trustees and teachers have got together for the first Show Meeting and it’s looking to be a good one!

We’re not giving anything away just yet, but be prepared for some fantastic music choices, a few, er, interesting props, and some brilliant choreography. We’re also looking forward to two fun numbers from our colleagues at First Dance.

So Woking Dance Space will be presenting…. Spirit in Motion

Remember everyone is welcome to join in the fun, whatever ability or class, and whether you want to perform on stage or just help out.

There’s no fee to join in, and most of the costumes will be provided. All we ask is that you commit to the rehearsals and performance dates.

There are also lots of jobs to help out behind the scenes: costume making days (all skills needed from fluff sweeping to hand sewing), front of house staff on show nights, dressers, prop makers, marketing distribution….

It all ends up being really good fun. So if you would like to get involved, please let us know and keep an eye out for notices!

New trustees

Firstly we hope you like the new clock on the wall. It is a lovely goodbye gift from Claire Tabraham, and we hope she will come back to visit soon to see it in place!

Following Claire’s move to Cambridge, we needed to find a replacement trustee, and we are delighted to announce that we have found not one, but two lovely people to join us.

Zelda Whittern and Jackie Smith have both agreed to become trustees and will be excellently placed to represent the views and needs of the Monday classes as well as the Zumba crowd!

Please join us in welcoming them on board the team!

Show Theatre week

13th to 18th May 2013

As we announced in the last news letter, after ten years, we have finally had to put up our class prices:

Regular classes:

Classes in advance:

And please remind everyone to make sure they don’t use outdoor shoes to dance in for classes. We have had some holes appearing in our £1,600 floor from grit that gets caught up in them – not good.

INALA Day

We had a very successful and fun INALA fundraiser day. The classes were challenging and fun, with students of all ages and abilities, and culminated with a repertoire class where a portion of Balanchine's SYMPHONY IN C was taught to the delighted (and exhausted!) dancers.

The studio was transformed for the evening cocktail party, with South African music and delicacies made by our own talented Gill Osborne (who also introduced us to edible Mopane Worms!!).

The guests were treated to a 15 minute promotional video of the project INALA: abundance of goodwill, and were fascinated by the costumes and photography that were on display. The leather helm with real feathers was especially admired and remarked upon, although none of the men present could be induced to don the skimpy outfits.

Co-Producers Pietra Mello-Pittman and Ella Spira were on hand to answer questions and discuss the project and other artistic collaborators. Everyone in attendance is now looking forward to seeing the production at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in 2013.

Generally the classes were very popular, particularly considering the time of year with so many on holiday, so we may consider making this an annual collaboration/Masterclass with teachers from the Royal Ballet.

Olympics Closing Ceremony

We couldn’t resist showing you some of our very own fantastic punk phoenixes from the Olympics Closing Ceremony.

We were very proud of you ladies, and very jealous! What a fantastic experience!

Many of you have been commenting on the new website we launched over the summer.

If you haven’t taken a look, check it out here www.wokingdancespace.org.uk

We think you’ll agree Kate has done a great job of making the site look bang up to date, really attractive and professional.

However it is still a work in progress, so if you spot any broken links or other types of bug please drop her a note to let her know!
