Woking DANCE Space
Beginners Classes
Woking Dance Space offers a range of dance classes for complete beginners.
The classes focus on the basics of each dance style helping you to learn positions, simple step combinations and to help you gain confidence.
At the beginning of each term the class starts at the very beginning and gradually build up over the weeks. When you feel confident enough you can join any of the other classes we offer at a higher level, or stay in the beginners class for another term. You define the pace.
The following beginners dance classes and courses are currently being offered...
Tap for beginners
Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and 7:30pm to 8:30pm
This class is designed for the absolute beginner and, as with any Woking Dance Space class, welcomes all people of any ability, age, shape and size.
It teaches the basics from the foundation steps of tap, using technical exercises to help you understand how to stand, balance and make the right noises with your feet. These steps are also combined in dance routines so that students understand how the steps are put together and to allow the student to really dance. Music is fun, funky, jazzy, bluesy - a real mixture, and something for everyone.
We have a small supply of tap shoes that can be borrowed for the first few lessons so that you can try the class before investing in shoes. The basics will be recapped throughout the term and at the start of each term we'll go back to the beginning so that new members always get the opportunity to learn from scratch. Once you're more up to speed, and if you feel ready for some more challenging steps, you can move on to the intermediate class.
Go on - be brave and give it a go - it's a really good chance to learn something new. Claire and the class would love to welcome you.
This class is taught by Claire Tabraham.
Ballet for beginners
Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
This course concentrates on absolute basics - i.e. the five positions of the arms and feet and the importance of correct stance.
The class follows the traditional pattern of barre work, adage/port de bras, centre practice, allegro and short cool down, but at a fundamental level. Suitable for students who have never studied Classical Ballet before or for those returning after a long break.
This class is taught by Eithne Last.
